When a “Growth Model” Acts the Same as a “Status Model”: Lessons Learned

The presentation summarizes two empirical studies applying multiple growth models to common state data. Analyses found that growth models approved for the U.S. Education Department Growth Model Pilot were highly correlated with Status. Some growth models not approved were less strongly consistent with Status. Discussion includes explanations for the results and factors states should consider when designing a growth system for school accountability.
